Second and last day of DC

We were a bit surprised by the sight of the White House honestly. It wasn't particularly impressive (large) in a city of monstrous buildings. Since we, as Swedes, weren't allowed to actually see the inside we instead went to a visitors centre (really dull one) in which I found a plaque saying that Washington himself had wanted it that way; "Not too grand but grand enough" which I found quite nice.

Noticed these weird flowers growing on the stems of certain trees in town. Were sitting by some when a woman stopped by and made a comment about how very rare they were. She was apparently working in an arboretum so ought to have known. Its name is Eastern Redbud. Quite nice, even if it clearly is pink/purple rather than red.

Finally done with the Mall (having experienced both feelings seen above) and heading for Georgetown. Real nice subways.

Coming from NYC everything felt real tiny here, very picturesque. Great shopping too.
